LWD, or Long Wave Diathermy, is a modern physiotherapy treatment used to relieve pain, reduce inflammation, and improve tissue healing. It works by using long-wave electromagnetic energy to produce gentle therapeutic heat deep inside body tissues. This heat increases blood circulation, relaxes muscles, reduces joint stiffness, and promotes faster recovery from injuries. LWD is commonly used for conditions such as arthritis, muscle pain, sports injuries, back pain, and soft tissue inflammation.
During the treatment, a physiotherapist places the therapy applicator near the affected body area. The machine delivers long-wave energy safely and comfortably without causing pain. Patients usually feel mild warmth and relaxation during the session. A typical treatment lasts between 15 to 30 minutes depending on the patient’s condition and severity of pain.
One major advantage of LWD over traditional short wave therapy is that it provides controlled and uniform heating with improved patient comfort. It is considered safer for superficial and deep tissue treatment while reducing the risk of overheating tissues. The therapy also helps improve flexibility and movement in stiff muscles and joints.
