Ultrasonic Therapy, commonly known as Ultrasound Therapy (US Therapy), is a widely used treatment method in physiotherapy for reducing pain, inflammation, and muscle stiffness. It uses high-frequency sound waves that penetrate deep into body tissues to promote healing and improve blood circulation. The therapy is especially beneficial for soft tissue injuries such as ligament sprains, tendonitis, muscle strains, and joint inflammation.
During the treatment, a physiotherapist applies a special gel on the affected area and moves a handheld ultrasound device over the skin. The sound waves create gentle heat within the tissues, which helps relax muscles, reduce swelling, and increase flexibility. In some cases, non-thermal ultrasound is also used to stimulate tissue repair without producing heat.
Ultrasonic Therapy is painless and usually lasts between 5 to 10 minutes depending on the condition being treated. Patients often experience relief from chronic pain and improved movement after regular sessions. It is commonly used along with exercises and manual therapy for better rehabilitation results. However, it should only be performed under professional supervision for safe and effective treatment.
